Carmelo Anthony Says Phil Jackson Would've Traded Him For A 'Bag Of Chips,' And Twitter Ran With It

"Barbecue and we got a deal."

Late last month, after being traded from the New York Knicks to the Oklahoma City ThunderCarmelo Anthony penned a heartfelt goodbye letter to the Big Apple.

But Melo's relationship with the Knicks former president Phil Jackson was anything but heartfelt. Jackson routinely took jabs at the All-Star forward throughout their time together in NYC.

And in an interview with the New York Times earlier this week, Anthony said that Jackson was willing "to trade me for a bag of chips.” While that might have been true, Jackson was fired by the organization before the team traded Melo to OKC.

That being said, Anthony made the "bag of chips" comment, and Twitter was all too happy to run with it with these hilarious reactions.

  • People Immediately connected Melo's willing 'to trade me for a bag of chips' comment to Phil Jackson's love for the triangle offense like this ...

    Dead. The internet remains undefeated.

  • Phil was probably on the phone with NBA presidents and general managers like ...

    Ah, man!

  • All these tweets about chips probably have melo like this right about now

    HA!

  • is this person trying to say that melo is salty?

Damn ... people really ran with the chips theme.

  • But when people weigh the Knicks-Thunder trade, they were like ...

With all due respect, the Knicks didn't even get a fellow All-Star back for the swap.

  • Melo went from a bad situation with the Knicks to an instant, serious contender with OKC

And what's best about this is Anthony and the new-look Thunder host none other than the Knicks tonight to open their 2017-18 season. Can't wait!
