Olympic Fencer Ibtihaj Muhammad Got Honored With Her Own Hijab-Wearing Barbie And People Love It
Olympic gymnast Gabby Douglas and American Ballet dancer Misty Copeland made history last year when they each got their own shero Barbie dolls.
And now we can add Ibtihaj Muhammad to the list. The Olympic fencer took to her Twitter account yesterday to announce that Mattel has made her "the newest member of the Barbie Shero family."
It's a landmark announcement, considering the doll is Mattel's first hijab-wearing Barbie doll ever, as reported by USA TODAY.
"I’m proud to know that little girls everywhere can now play with a Barbie who chooses to wear hijab!" the 31-year-old fencer said as part of her tweet. "This is a childhood dream come true."
And people let Muhammad know how much they love the doll, which will be available online next fall, according to the Associated Press.
Here's how Ibtihaj Muhammad tweeted and announced her very own Shero Barbie
Major congrats, girl!
Immediately, people let her know that they can't wait to purchase her Barbie
How precious!
And from the sound of these tweets, Mattel will have to crank out a lot of these dolls because the demand is high
This is just beautiful.
Ibtihaj Getting Her Own Shero Barbie is a victory for us all
#Facts.
And when hate found its way into Muhammad's comments, it was fiercely checked at the door
Talk to 'em!
Any racism and hate was also furiously drowned out by the outpouring of love
Love it. Can't wait until it's available.
