DeMarcus Cousins And Ex Slammed For Bad Parenting As NBA Investigates Domestic Violence Allegations

The newlywed Lakers' star and his ex-girlfriend appear to be headed towards a court battle.

The DeMarcus Cousins saga looks like it’s going to get a lot worse for all parties involved.

TMZ released an audio recording on Tuesday (August 27) of an alleged conversation between the Lakers’ big man and his ex-girlfriend Christy West. According to West, Cousins asked if their son could attend his Atlanta wedding.

The male voice on the recording, identified as Cousins by West, said: “I’m gonna ask you this one more time before I take it to another level. Can I have my son here, please?”

West refused the request and the man replied, “I’m gonna make sure I put a bullet through your f—ing head.”

Since the audio surfaced the NBA has begun an investigation. Spokesman Mike Bass said: “We are aware of the report regarding DeMarcus Cousins and are investigating the allegations.”

The Lakers are also aware of the allegations and conducting their own investigation. Cousins could face discipline from the league and his team. A Lakers' statement read:

"We are aware of the allegation involving DeMarcus Cousins and, of course, take this claim seriously. We are in the process of gathering information and will reserve further comment at this time."

West is seeking a restraining order against Cousins, noting he previously threatened and choked her.

Domestic violence is a serious issue, and given the NFL’s missteps with their players, Commissioner Adam Silver needs to make sure he is doing the right thing with this investigation.

Right or wrong, in the era and climate we live in, the court of public opinion plays such a critical role in how leagues react and mete out punishment.

It has only been a little over 24 hours, but the reactions on social media (which can often be a depraved cesspool) are mixed, faulting both Cousins and West. Of course, their 7-year-old son has a front row seat to this serious trauma.
