The iconic Sports Illustrated cover story featuring a then teenage LeBron James, a junior at St. Vincent-St. Mary high school in Akron, is back in the news.
That’s because the game-worn jersey seen on the cover is up for auction, according to ESPN.
Auction house Golden Auctions is handling the process. As of today (September 30th) the current bid is at $43,000.
Golden Auctions has confirmed that the unidentified owner was gifted the jersey by James. Apparently the owner also attended St. Vincent-St. Mary.
5% of the auction proceeds will go to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Massachusetts.
The auction is set to run until October 19th.
