Warner University Football Player Dies After Collapsing During Practice

Theodore “Boobie” Hammonds was rushed to the emergency room.

In a statement issued on Facebook, Warner University in Lake Wales Florida said a football player died after collapsing during a non contact football drill. 

Senior Theodore “Boobie” Hammonds collapsed on Tuesday (October 8th) after the drill and immediately received medical attention by athletic training staff and Polk County Emergency Services. 

Hammonds was taken to AdventHealth Lake Wales ER, where he passed away. The cause of death is not yet known.

The University offered its condolences via the statement and has set up support teams for members of the community that might need it.

“We offer our deepest sympathies and heartfelt prayers to Theo’s family, friends, classmates, coaches and teammates in this difficult and uncertain time. A Warner University Care Team has been assembled to provide compassion and support to our students, faculty and staff who need it.”

As of now, details are limited. Once more information becomes available, the university will provide as appropriate.
