Mrs. Obama Goes to Africa - First lady Michelle Obama is set to visit the African nations of Botswana and South Africa this week (June 20-26). The historic trip marks only her second official solo trip outside of the United States and her first solo trip to Africa (the first family visited the continent back in 2009). Tuesday: Pretoria, South Africa - On Tuesday Obama touches down at Waterkloof Air Force Base in Pretoria, South Africa. After meeting with President Zuma, she’ll visit the Mandela Foundation in Johannesburg and tour the premises with Nelson Mandela’s wife, Graca Machel. Wednesday: Pretoria and Johannesburg, South Africa - On Wednesday morning Obama will deliver a keynote address at a Young African Women Leaders forum at the Regina Mundi Church in the Soweto township. Thursday: Cape Town, South Africa - The first lady will spend today in Cape Town, where she is set to visit Robben Island, the facility where former President Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 18 years. Afterwards Obama will invite local students to participate in a day-long university “immersion experience” at the University of Cape Town. To end the day, the first lady will visit the Cape Town Soccer Stadium, site of last year’s World Cup, and meet with retired Archbishop Desmond Tutu.
