Bank of America has donated 61 vibrant black-and-white photographs of a community founded by freed slaves to the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African-American History and Culture in Washington, D.C. The Smithsonian announced Wednesday that philanthropist David Rubenstein is making a donation to the capital campaign for the museum, set to open in September. He is also loaning the museum two documents signed by President Abraham Lincoln: the 13th Amendment and the Emancipation Proclamation.
