From the beginnings of American History, the journey and contributions of African American women have been often overlooked. Today, we are fortunate to live in an era filled with female living legends from the big screen to the board room, and even in the White House. We’re fortunate to live in a time where each of you defines what it is to be a leading woman – and BET Networks is proud to celebrate you! LEADING WOMEN DEFINED is designed to help set a national agenda for our new decade and for our community, with a special focus on education, leadership, family, health, and activism for young women and girls. Our program is full of women who have changed the game and redefined the standard of success for anyone in their field. In addition to informative panels, candid conversations and engaging workshops, we also had the opportunity to go straight into the hearts and lives of young girls at a local DC high school and ask them to share their most pressing issues and concerns. Through networking, shared experiences, and idea exchanges, it is my hope that all have left the summit inspired to elevate, empower and educate the community.
