Toni Braxton is a a multi-awarding winning singer-songwriter, pianist, actress and philanthropist. Born on October 7, 1967, she is the eldest of six siblings. Growing up, Toni and her sisters were active in their church choir. By the late ‘80s, Toni and her sisters, Traci, Towanda, Trina and Tamar, formed their singing group, the Braxtons. Toni went on to pursue a solo career, which led to her success with many platinum hits! Through her journey, she has gone on to appearing on Broadway in plays, performing on ABC's Dancing With The Stars, and being the star of her family's hit reality WEtv show, The Braxtons. Braxton is also an advocate for autism awareness.
Toni's group with her sisters, the Braxtons, worked hard and got signed to Arista Records. In 1990 they released their first single, “The Good Life." The single caught the attention of music moguls L.A. Reid and Babyface. To them, Toni stood out and they pursued her for her music. The duo signed Toni as the first female artist to their Arista-distributed imprint, LaFace Records, in 1991. From there, Toni started releasing solo music and perfecting her craft. In 1993, Toni released her long-awaited self-titled debut album, Toni Braxton. The album was well received by the masses and immediately climbed the charts, peaking at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart.
Her self-titled debut album, Toni Braxton, boasted many endless hits. Debut records “Another Sad Love Song,” “Breathe Again” and “You Mean the World to Me” all hit the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 charts. After all of the enormous success, Toni Braxton was on top. By 1995, she had sold over 10 million copies internationally from her debut album.
Though Toni has had many remarkable connections, we'd have to say the coolest is the one with her sisters. Though she had to leave their group to pursue her solo career, Toni made sure to include them in various songs. You can see them singing in the background of her record "Seven Whole Days." Her close bond with her sisters is truly one of the coolest connections yet.
Toni Braxton's best collaboration would have to be anything the songstress has done with Babyface. The two have worked on countless songs together and even recorded a collaborative album, Love, Marriage & Divorce.
If you don't already know, the singer released her first single, “Deadwood,” off of her eighth studio album, Sex & Cigarettes, in September of this year! The singer continues to make music and proves she cannot be stopped!
