Yikes! Robin Thede Had Two Awkward Moments With Michelle Obama That She Lived To Talk About

You gotta come correct when you're in Michelle's presence.

Host, comedienne and television powerhouse Robin Thede stopped by Late Night With Seth Myers to talk about new episodes of her show The Rundown With Robin Thede, her experience at the White House Correspondents Dinner and all the awkward times she’d made an impression on Michelle Obama.

Robin recalled the second time she met queen Michelle Obama, saying, “So, backstage when you are getting ready to go out to the floor, the president and the first lady are waiting there receiving all the V.I.P.s, right?…And then I come up and they’re like: who is this? I’m like, 'I’m the head writer.' Barack Obama is like, 'Great!' [He] shakes my hand.” Robin said at this point Michelle Obama poked her chest and said, “You better be funny. You better be funny.”

The next time Robin met the first lady, things went even less smoothly. “So, now this time was even worse," she said. "I made a total fool of myself. So this is the holiday party in 2015. And I go and shake Barack Obama’s hand. 'Sir, nice to meet you, Merry Christmas.' And then Michelle Obama, the queen that she is, goes to shake my hand. We take the picture and she goes, 'Merry Christmas,' And I go, 'Happy Holidays.' And she goes, 'OK.' I don’t why I changed it. Like, why was I trying to be super PC?”
