Kim Kardashian is a modern day fashion muse. Between modeling the latest Yeezy collection by hubby Kanye West and starring in the Balmain campaign to literally owning Paris fashion week, she has developed major sartorial chops. But we also know that beyond the high fashion scene Kim is also a serious trend setter. Case in point: her new penchant for rocking a waist trainer over her clothes. Kidding. We know, we know. It’s a corset and styling it over an outfit was popularized on the runway by Prada for Fall 2016.
The Prada version, which costs upwards of $1,000, is a bit pricey for those of us that aren’t currently on the cover of Forbes. As an alternative, here's how to rock Kim’s current look. Step one, put on a baggy T-shirt or tank top. Step two, coordinate your waist trainer to your top and cinch it as tight as possible (you can breathe later) but if not, hit up Alaia or Zana Bayne. Step three, attitude is everything, so act like wearing your shapewear on the outside is NBD.
Here's a visual guide so you can see how it's done. Below, Kim rocks a cream Prada corset atop a white (possibly Yeezy?) T-shirt and tops the whole thing with a loose, acid-wash denim jacket. Blunt lob and spaced-out expression optional — though perhaps unavoidable if your circulation is cut off:
For some added va-va-voom, skip the loose-fitting shirt and accentuate your cleavage and curve-age. Here, Kim is seen in a Givenchy option. A '90s vixen-style grommeted lace-up miniskirt completes the look:
Warning to the novices: be careful trying this at home.
