Kim Kardashian West and husband Kanye West are in town for the 2016 VMAs. While they both showed up and showed out on Sunday night, we've been primarily interested in their activities since then.
But Kim and Kanye did something super random. They're staying at an Airbnb. This might not seem weird at first glance. Everyone (except me) does Airbnb, but for Mr. and Mrs. West, who have a home on Houston Street in SoHo, choosing to stay in a stranger's house just seems a little like not the point of Airbnb.
For those of you not in the know, Airbnb is a digital service that connects people who want to both temporairly lease out or rent apartments in cities around the world. People usually use this service as an alternative to hotels. Aka, if you need somwhere to stay.
Their site says "Founded in August of 2008 and based in San Francisco, California, Airbnb is a trusted community marketplace for people to list, discover, and book unique accommodations around the world — online or from a mobile phone or tablet. Airbnb connects people to unique travel experiences, at any price point, in more than 34,000 cities and 191 countries. And with world-class customer service and a growing community of users, Airbnb is the easiest way for people to monetize their extra space and showcase it to an audience of millions."
Well, thanks to Kim's very, very hearty endorsement, I imagine that their "community of users" is now much, much bigger. Still, it's strange that Kim would even agree to do this as we would like to reemphasize, she and Kanye already have a home in New York City. They don't actually need a place to stay when traveling to the big apple, defeating the purpose of using an Airbnb.
