That’s right; Kanye West has officially sold more merchandise than Pope Francis sold during his speech at Madison Square Garden. Talk about goals! According to TMZ, Ye’ sold a record-breaking total of $780,000 in Yeezy merch on just Monday (Sept. 5) night alone, surpassing the Pope’s $540,000 during his speech at Madison Square Garden last year. Combined with Saint Pablo tour sales from his second show in NYC on Tuesday (Sept. 6), he is way past the $1 million dollar mark making a slight dent in his reported $53 million in "personal debt."
So how do Saint Pablo’s and Pope Francis’s merch compare? Well, while West went the traditional route with tour hoodies, tees, dad hats, and such — the Pope’s swag included rosary beads, crucifixes and a limited-edition Christmas ornament. Both had their faces plastered all over their stuff.
The pontiff may have performed mass at MSG to 20,000 people, but Kanye took his fans to church and they returned the favor by purchasing a hefty amount of souvenirs. To be fair the pope did beat out the rapper as far welcomings go, with 80,000 people lining Central Park to see him on his tour of New York City.
