Zendaya is setting the bar high while also inspiring other millennials to go after their dreams. While the 20-year-old already has an impressive résumé, this weekend she added yet another title and it just might be her favorite role yet: woke fashion designer.
The actress, singer and dancer this weekend (November 4 and 5) is hosting a selection of pop-up shops in Chicago, Los Angeles and New York to debut her brand new fashion line, aptly titled Daya by Zendaya.
The clothing line, which is also available online, features a diverse collection of trendy pieces that have the charming ability to win over just about anyone, offering sizes 0 to 22 and impressively without a hefty price tag.
The first Daya collection includes pieces that offer zero distinction between regular and plus sizes. The models she chose to promote her line represent a variety of body types, shapes and sizes, with Zendaya explaining that hopefully one day fashion will get to a point where people don't even have to think about inclusion.
"I can’t just talk the talk, you know?" she shares in an interview with Racked. "I can’t just say all this stuff about inclusivity and loving people and breaking barriers and then actually not do it when it comes down to my own stuff. That’s fake."
For someone who still can't legally drink alcohol, the actress is wise beyond her years, and is utilizing her platform wisely to evoke positive changes through her new clothing line.
Zendaya also shares she is both excited and focused on creating clothing that everyone can comfortably wear, and is particularly interested in offering both stylish and cozy items that simply make people feel good.
"I think clothing is emotional," she explains. "When you wear a new jacket, or you buy a good pair of shoes, or… you put on a dress that fits your body just right, you feel different. You feel good. And also, clothes can make you feel negative. If something doesn’t fit right, if something is not highlighting a part of your body that you like, it’s emotional. Right? And it makes you feel something, whether it be positive or negative. So my whole idea with this is to give people the freedom to do what they want with it… you can wear a slip dress and a hoodie if you want to."
Needless to say, we're beyond here for Zendaya's latest creative endeavor and are looking forward to seeing what her future collections will have in store.
