On Wednesday, Prince Harry, 2016's mayor of Swirl City, had his first meeting with real royalty aka HRH Robyn Rihanna Fenty. The two met in Barbados, Ri’s homeland, to celebrate the country’s 50th anniversary of independence. And today, they got together for an impressive statement: a public HIV test for World AIDS day.
“Couldn’t believe how easy this was to get tested and find out my status on the spot!” wrote Rihanna. “So easy you can order your own kit and do it at home!”
A tweet from Kensington Palace stated that RiRi and Prince Harry underwent the test to “show how easy it is to be tested for HIV.” This is Harry’s second time publicly documenting an HIV test in order to de-stigmatize the procedure, which is something Prince Harry's late mother worked towards in the '80s.
Rihanna casually getting tested sends an enormously important message to her millions and millions of fans. By reassuring the public that it’s quick, easy and no big deal, the star is encouraging people to take an essential step towards safeguarding their health. In the U.S., HIV still disproportionately affects Black people, so having one of the world’s most famous Black celebrities take a stand on the issue is momentous. So basically, Rihanna continues to be the best.
