Kanye West’s Yeezy Season 5 show wasn’t the spectacle that we all anticipated from the notorious creative. However 19 year-old Halima Aden, who rocked a hijab down the runway added some flavor to Ye’s usually cast of models.

Get to know the Somali-American model who took one of the biggest shows at NYFW by storm.

  1. Yeezy Season 5

Her fur-coat clad strut in Kanye West's Yeezy Season 5 during NYFW may have been her first walk ever down the runway, but it was nothing short of iconic.

Halima is the first woman to ever compete in the Miss Minnesota USA pageant wearing a burkini, a traditional Muslim swimsuit. She didn’t win, but she did make it into the top 15, hijab and all.

  4. Roots

She was born in a Kenyan refugee camp but moved to St. Cloud as a child, where she is now a student at St. Cloud University in Minnesota.

  5. "Don't ever change yourself...Change the game."

Halima is dismantling stereotypes of Muslim women and beauty with every photoshoot and catwalk she slays. “A lot of people will look at you and will fail to see your beauty because you’re covered up and they’re not used to it. So growing up, I just had to work on my people skills and give people a chance to really know me besides the clothing,” she told Minnesota’s KARE 11 .

She even makes braces look stunning!
