Dating is already an awkward experience but social media makes the whole thing so much worse. And once you've found someone you don't want, then comes the dodging calls, canceling dates, and avoiding awkward run-ins. But an emerging dating trend, haunting, has surfaced and it puts ghosting to shame.
According to Cosmopolitan, the definition of haunting is when an Ex watches your every move on social media and finds odd and subtly annoying ways of letting you know he or she is still around without actually communicating with you.
Not sure if you are being haunted by an Ex (or if you are actually the haunter)? Below you will find the key signs that you are being watched (or are watching).
While you are scrolling through your social media, you will get a random request from an Ex to follow you or friend you on social media. If he/she is not already a follower/friend, you are possibly opening the door to haunting.
Chris Brown did this by following Melissa Forde, Riri's bestie earlier this year. We see you, Chris.
You begin to notice that they are constantly showing up as watchers on your Instagram and Snapchat stories without ever interacting with you.
This person just wants to show up in your notifications — a sure sign of haunting.
Oddly, you will notice that this person has suddenly found an interest in your résumé.
Whether it’s to make you remember they exist or simply to just drive you crazy, haunting is not only an annoying dating trend, it is also really creepy and makes you wonder why you dated this person at all.
Best bet? When you break up: unfollow, unsubscribe, unplug. Keep you social media private, and be careful and selective with people you let hover in your Internet orbit because they can haunt you!
