As the host of B*Real’s weekly comedy series Funny Style, Amanda Seales has faithfully brought you the news and her views on the week of celebrity fashion, side-eyes and all. Now, the TV personality and comedian is embarking on her first scripted comedy series, Get Your Life, premiering Wednesday (October 21) exclusively on Issa Rae’s YouTube channel, Issa Rae Presents.
The show follows Amanda as she packs up from New York City and heads for sunny Los Angeles to pursue her dreams of conquering Hollywood. She hilariously navigates the ups and downs of the cutthroat entertainment industry, all while looking for love as a single lady in the city. (Judging by Seale’s fly fashion sense, we can bet they’ll be plenty of style gazing to watch for, too!)
“I’ve always taken being considered funny as the highest compliment,” Seales says about the new series. “I’m so excited to be writing and creating comedy, getting to share this show about my crazy life, and adding another platform for my fellow hilarious sistas to shine on. I’ve been around a while, but this is just the beginning!”
Aside from her hosting resume with BET.com, Seales has appeared as a host/contributor to Elle.com, Al Jazeera America, Huffpost Live, CNN, The View and MTV, among others. She has written and produced a number of critically acclaimed one-woman comedy shows under her production company, DivaWorks Inc.
So far, announced guest appearances on Get Your Life include Cree Summer (A Different World), Lil Rel (The Carmichael Show), Hayley Marie Norman (Top 5) and Angell Conwell (Baby Boy).
According to a press release, Get Your Life also has an empowering message “to add to the growing canon of unique representations of Black and brown women and their stories being heard.” We can definitely agree that the crowded webscape can make some for quality, diverse content uplifting our fellow women of color. Big props go out to Amanda, and we wish her luck on this exciting new chapter!
