It's a lit day for Black creatives in fashion! This doesn't happen often, so let's bask in the afterglow. Yay!
Last night, fashion bigwigs were in New York to celebrate the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) Awards. Nicki Minaj, who's long sat front row at shows next to Anna Wintour, arrived on the arm of designer Alexander Wang.
The purpose of the evening was to crown an emerging designer with a grant of $40,000 to help further their artistic vision. In the end, the immensely talented Telfar Clemens of Telfar took the top prize. Black boy joy for the win!
On a separate, but related, note, British Vogue's first issue under new editor Edward Enninful came out today! It features model Adwoa Aboah, making it only the third cover in the publication's history to feature a Black model.
Since she arrived on the arm of Mr. Wang himself, it only made sense that she wore one of his creations. Did it look like fancy underwear with a train? Yes. Are we here for it? Also yes!
Leave it to Nic to wear a show-stopping 'fit — she's never one to shy away from a fashion risk!
