EXCLUSIVE: 22-Year-Old It-Actress Sasha Lane Openly Talks About Mental Illness

She’s living her best life with fluffy Uggs in tow!

When you talk personal style with actress Sasha Laneshe’s straight to the point. Using her extreme consciousness as her compass, the Houston native makes it clear every look she puts on reflects her mood.

“I would say everything comes from my mood,” Sasha shared exclusively with BET. “My style, I guess comes from my mood. I’m a very mood driven person."

As such, it only makes sense that her fashion choices reflect her fairy-tale unicorn vibes, and, obviously, shopping for pink and fluffy fashions are a definite must.

“For the most part, if I want to feel good, then I try to wear things that’ll make me feel that way. I found I like pink, purple, bright colors and fun fluffy things. I want to feel like a fairy so that I only attract fairy vibes. So I’ll do like pink, pink, pink. Fun things [with] sparkles and glitter,” the 22-year-old shared.

Speaking of pink, fluffy and fashionable, as a taste maker included in UGG’s new Autumn/Winter 2018 campaign, it only makes sense that her favorite shoes from their new collection are the pink and fluffy Del Rey ($130).

“They’re so soft and feel so good,” she confessed.

We had the opportunity to speak to the young actress, who made her buzzy film debut in American Honey and appears in the much-anticipated The Miseducation of Cameron Post, to talk modeling, breaking barriers in Hollywood, and why being bipolar is never a hindrance to her abilities in her life.

You have such a carefree spirit and vibe even through your social media. How do you plan to use that to break the barriers in Hollywood?

SL: “I think I am a free spirit more than a carefree. I think very deeply about every decision I make and every move I make. Coming into Hollywood, I built who I was before I even stepped foot in the door. I am a free spirit. I am who I am and no one is going to take that from me."

How do you deal with the pressures of being a young celebrity who is very open about being bipolar?

SL: “I don’t find it as pressure. I don’t think there is anything wrong with having a mental illness. I clearly still do my work; I still do everything I do in life. When I talk about, I realize it helps people. The more it helps people, the more I speak.”

What inspirational words do you have for other young people that live with bipolar disorder?

SL: “I think you have to get to a point where you love and embrace every single part of yourself. I know that there is darkness that comes with living with bipolar disorder. There is the other half of it, the darker side. Once you realize that you can recognize that, accept that, and embrace that, use that for something positive. You can write a poem from it. You have to make a song from it. You can understand people more from it. You can have more empathy for it because you understand what it feels like to feel so down you can’t ever get out of bed. It’s literally embracing every single aspect of your brain, your mind, and soul and you f*cking glow with that.”

Do you feel as though it is important to have a good team around you?

SL: “Absolutely, I feel like what you keep around you and what you listen to and you take in attracts those same vibes and those energies. If you only keep good people around you, people who really do love you and support you and have your back, you’re just solid. You have a sense of strength, a sense of balance, and a sense of grounding.”

Why do you think you made a perfect fit for the Autumn/Winter 2018 UGG Collective?

Sasha: “[UGGs are] no longer just something you see a certain type of person wearing or a comfortable thing. You can be fun and cozy at the same time. I always want to be cozy with what I am wearing. I always want to feel good about what I am wearing. I think that [UGG] is switching up the style and still making it cute. There are fluffy heels and that’s so cool! You still get to be cute. You’re cozy, and you’re good.”
