Zendaya Debuts Her 2nd Collection With Tommy Hilfiger At The Historic Apollo Theater And You Can Buy It Right Now

This show was an ode to blackness.

This New York Fashion Week has been one for the books, and we have Zendaya and her latest Tommy Hilfiger collection to thank for it.

The Tommy x Zendaya, see-now-buy-now collection displayed a true love for '70s disco. Imagine arriving at the historic Apollo theater and being escorted out the back door to an alley that was converted into an old movie lot.

The show started with a jazz band playing hits from James Brown, and Chaka Khan, that had us itching to dance, while the vibes consisted of old Cadillacs (one of which started up and drove right through the audience to park center stage), an epic saxophonist, and a little girl singing along to Aretha Franklin’s R.E.S.P.E.C.T.

Let's just say, 125th street was turned into a ‘70s block party, celebrating blackness at it’s greatest!

With Grace Jones closing out the Studio 54 inspired show last season, people were wondering how Zendaya would top that. She did not disappoint.

The Tommy x Zendaya collection is the second and final installment of the partnership between two, and it’s filled with so much damn swag. There were tons of polka dots, plaids, snake prints, and metallic prints. Along with leather suits, wool pleated skirts, and knee-high boots dominating the runway.

Zendaya has made a name for herself turning heads on red carpets the past few years thanks to her stylist, Law Roach. So, the Gen Z actress and activist signed on as Tommy’s global ambassador back in October 2019 debuting their first collaborative collection during Paris Fashion Week in March 2019 with the most diverse cast in history.

The 22-year-old activist has been vocal about her support of Black Lives Matter and racial representation in pop culture, so employing a cast of diverse models to walk her runway show was just a part of her agenda for pushing the industry forward.

The show not only celebrated blackness, but Zendaya stayed true to breaking barriers with inclusivity. There was 67-year-old model, Jo-Ani Johnson, pregnant model Ashley Graham, and even world-renowned Muslim model, Halima strutting the runway wearing her traditional hijab. This show was nothing short of amazing.
