Everyone deals with breakups in different ways, but one guy in Hawaii may have gone too far according to Judge Rhonda Loo. Darren Young’s ex-girlfriend requested a protection order against him in February and he was ordered not to contact her. But just two months later, Darren called and texted his ex 144 times within a three-hour period, according to the police. The scorned lover was sentenced on Friday to write 144 compliments about his ex in response to the 144 “nasty” texts and calls he sent her.
“For every nasty thing you said about her, you’re going to say a nice thing,” Judge Loo told Darren. “No repeating words.”
The inappropriate messages cost Darren 144 compliments, 157 days in jail, two years of probation, $2,400 in fines and 200 hours of community service!
“It’s so childish to think a grown man can be so thumb-happy,” Judge Loo said. Darren told the judge he got the message and will move on with his life now.
“I don’t know whether I should cut off your fingers or take away your phone to get you to stop texting,” Judge Loo told Darren. “You probably shouldn’t get a phone, period. I hope she changed her number.”
That means don’t go sliding in her DMs either, Darren.
Is 144 compliments an unusual sentence for a judge to give? What do you think?
