Published January 5th

It’s no secret that in order to stay relevant today, celebrities need a fashion line, a cosmetic brand, a fragrance deal or some other glamorous gig to keep raking in the dough. But some stars are straying away from the norm when it comes to their side hustles and are making money on the low.

Recently a meme hit the net that claims Shaquille O’Neal co-owns multiple “regular-folk” friendly restaurant chains, plus endorsements with Gold Bold and Arizona cream soda that earn the retired baller $22 million per year. That’s roughly $423,000 per week!

Here’s how Shaq and more stars are securing the bag in unlikely ways:

  1. Shaquille O'Neal

Shaq is loves his Krispy Kream donuts, so much so that he’s gunning to be a own 100 Krispy Kreme shops, according to TMZ. He owns one franchise in Atlanta, but he’s looking to expand his doughnut empire as well as his food franchises which already include 155 Five Guys Burgers and 17 Auntie Annie’s Pretzels.

“I just started a company called Shaquille O’Meals,” he told TMZ. “I’m going to be investing in food franchises.”He’s also 150 car washes, 40 24-Hour Fitness Centers, a shopping center, a movie theater, and several Las Vegas nightclubs.

  2. Rick Ross

Sure, the rapper endoreses Belaire champagne, but did you know he collects coins from a burger joint, too? He shared this past fall, that he partnered with the Checkers and Rally's chain of drive-in restaurants. He also pedals unisex hair products called Rich Hair Care, which is pretty unsual (and smart) of the rapper.

  3. Venus Williams

In addition to her mega-successful athleisure line, Eleven by Venus, the tennis champ owns four Jamba Juice franchises in the Washington, D.C., area, and she also owns V-Starr, a full service interior design company for commercial and residential spaces. Yes, somewhere between Wimbledon wins and Olympic gold medals, Venus found time to become a licensed interior decorator.

  4. AKON

Akon Lighting Africa has reportedly brought solar lighting to more than 1 million households in 14 African countries. Then there's the diamond mine business he owns. Apparently he bought it in 2007 in South Africa, but he's super private about the deets on that one.

  5. Kim Kardashian

Kanye West may have gifted Kimmy with shares Amazon, Adidas, Apple and Disney this Chrstmas, but this isn't the first time he's given his wifey a gift that keeps on giving. Back 2014, the rapper bought his bride-to-be at the time 10 European Burger King franchises as a wedding present. The BK branches are  in Italy, France, and the UK. #Boss

  6. Lenny Kravitz

Lenny is in the interior designing biz, too. on He's had his boutique interior design firm called Kravitz Design since 2003. His clients have included luxury hotels, private residences, and he even created the set of The Queen Latifah Show. Who knew?!

  7. Beyoncé

Who runs the world? Queen Bey, duh. So of course she has multiple streams of income but perhaps her most lowkey money makers are her deals with WTRMLN WTR and 22 Days Nutrition. Issa lifestyle.
