The famed quarterback for the Carolina Panthers, Cam Newton, has a list of incredible credentials under his belt already—Heisman Trophy Winner, NFL draft, first pick overall, Rookie of the Year, Most Valuable Player and more. So how did the 29-year-old NFL star get all of those? It all starts with his beast-mode workouts that resulted in his astonishing four percent body fat physique at 242 pounds.
See the proof yourself:
His grueling but effective workouts are courtesy of his trainer of seven years, Baltimore-based Nate Costa, who owns FX Studios & Under Armour Performance Center. Their partnership officially began just after the Panthers had beaten the New Orleans Saints, finishing the regular season at 7-9 with no chance at the playoffs.
“I want to start training tomorrow,” Cam told Nate on 6 AM call the very next morning.
“I’m thinking, ‘You just came off of a 17-week season, and you’re telling me you want to start training tomorrow!’” explains Nate.
“Nate, I need to train my body to know what it feels like to go all the way to the Super Bowl. So, I’m going to train up until the Super Bowl,” said Cam.
“And it still gives me freaking goosebumps saying it because we trained every day, five days a week with a soft rest day, through the Super Bowl.”
The rest is history. Cam led the Panthers to the playoffs the next three seasons, including the Super Bowl at the end of their 2015-16 campaign.
Perhaps the key to Cam’s success on the field is his offseason training that leaves the athlete with a "machine-like" efficiency as Nate describes by game one. Entering the 2018-19 NFL season, the Cam is ready to go after another Super Bowl win coming off his routine offseason training at Sagamore Farm outside of Baltimore that he’s been at for five years now. The workout incorporates vigorous hills that got Cam down to that unbelievable body percentage.
