Leading Women Defined by Mom: Kelli Coleman

“Mother’s Day is a lot more fun now that I’m a mother.”

BET Networks recently sat down with Kelli Coleman, an executive vice president for GlobalHue, a total marketing communications agency, to discuss motherhood and the positive influence her mother has had on her life.

On being a mother, Kelli shares, “Being a mom is the most rewarding thing I have experienced and believe I will experience in life.”

On motherhood, Kelli admits with a glowing smile, “Mother’s Day is a lot more fun now that I’m a mother. As cliché as it sounds, we make the world go ‘round, and I love that there is a day dedicated to celebrating that.”

This Mother’s Day, Kelli is looking forward to spending time with her two-year-old daughter, saying, “She just has this real excitement that is amazing to watch and even better to experience with her. I think two-year-olds are great reminders of the fundamentals of life.”

Every Mother’s Day, Kelli also looks forward to honoring her mom, Jo Coleman. Kelli isn’t shy about the positive role her own mother has played in her life, saying, “My mother has been extremely instrumental in my life. She has always given me the best advice.”

Kelli shared some of her mother’s advice with us. “First and foremost, always remember you’re stronger than you think.” She also added, “Ultimately, you face a lot of obstacles day in and day out. Being strong and staying strong is especially important.”

Kelli not only expressed her gratitude for the time she spent with her mom growing up, but thinks fondly of their time together and what she learned from her mom. She said, “She took me everywhere and we did everything together. She was always dedicated to me and our family, but she also was the breadwinner for a lot of years while my father was trying to start his business.”

Kelli added, “She really did demonstrate the work-life balance that I strive for now. The fundamental things that she’s taught me have carried me through so many experiences. She is a great example of what it means to be caring and compassionate. If I could remind my mom of anything, it would be that I love you and I am continuously striving to make you proud.”

This Mother’s Day, we celebrate and honor Jo and Kelli Coleman, and all the mom’s that make the world go ‘round.
