7 Reasons to Watch Scream Queens

Why this must-see show is to die for this fall.

Published September 23, 2015

If you didn’t catch the two-hour long season premiere of the horror/comedy Scream Queens, then you’re missing out. It’s definitely a must-see as far as fall television goes. Want to know what all the fuss is about? Well, take a bunch of the hottest young Hollywood starlets, some laughs, some gore and a killer mystery involving a Red Devil and you’ll be delighted at the results. Think Mean Girls meets Scream.

With a star-studded cast, including Emma Roberts, Lea Michele, Abigail Breslin, Ariana Grande, Keke Palmer, Nick Jonas, Niecy Nash, Jamie Lee Curtis and more, this is a recipe for success. But, you also need to take this series for what it is — campy. The beauty of the show is that it’s aware of its campiness and plays off it well.

Without giving any spoilers, I've listed the top seven reasons you need to start watching this show. Here we go:

1. Who Is the Red Devil?

The mystery element of the show — trying to figure out who Red Devil is — will have all you Nancy Drews on your toes. And the tough part is that everyone looks so suspect.

2. You Want to See Chanel Go Down

Emma Roberts, aka Chanel, is the show’s resident “mean girl.” She’s the one you love to hate for her cocky and self-entitled demeanor. Somehow, you fall in love with her raw attitude.  Sure, she is by all means racist, underhanded and manipulative, but it all makes for good TV. Plus the girl has minions. Seriously, who doesn’t wish they had those?

3. Keke Palmer Is the Real MVP

Keke plays Zayday Williams, the best friend of the lead character, and delivers sassy one-liners. She’s the real MVP for checking Chanel whenever her racist remarks hit a nerve. Keke is there to keep it real. She's down-to-earth and right now she's a favorite of the girls.

4. Niecy Nash Is Hilarious

The comedian plays Denise Hemphill, a campus guard assigned to security detail at the Kappa House to protect the girls after the killings start happening. She offers plenty of comic relief and actually just might be the smartest character on the show when it comes to escaping death. When the girls want to pursue the Red Devil, who’s just right upstairs, to find out his identity, Denise is not here for it. Smart move, Niecy.

5. One Word: Nick Jonas

Yes, the R&B newbie is heating up the silver screen. Nick plays Boone, a frat boy. Need we say more? Well, there is more to his character, but we’ll let you see for yourself.

6. Creative Death Scenes

Twitter, frying oil, lawn mower — that’s all we’ll say. Trust me, the death scenes are so bad they’re great.

7. Plot Twist

The makings of a great thriller always involve a plot twist. The last two minutes of the two-hour premiere are not what was expected, so make sure you stay watching 'til the very end! You’ll definitely want to see what happens in episode two.
