On November 14, leading cosmetics company Ghandour Cosmetics launched its new perfume, Scent of Africa, in Ghana, marking Africa’s first step into the luxury fragrance market. The launch party was held at the extravagant Kempinksi Gold Coast Hotel in the capital city of Accra, attracting international supermodels, media producers, athletes and socialites.
Each table at the event was adorned with metallic replicas of the fragrance, in the iconic shape of the African continent. According to Ghandour, the bottle for the female fragrance in gold represents the beauty and elegance of the modern African woman while the silver male bottle illustrates the distinguished and powerful African man of today. Nigerian supermodel Oluchi Orlandi and Ghanian footballer and UEFA champ Marcel Desailly are the brand ambassadors for the fragrances.
“When you talk about luxury, sometimes you talk about Paris, Milan, London, New York, but this time it’s in Africa. So we need to promote it,” said Desailly in an interview.
According to Tanal Ghandour, founder and managing director of Ghana-based Ghandour Cosmetics, which has operated for over 20 years in 14 African countries, “Scent of Africa represents the success and richness of Africa. Both Oluchi and Marcel are true African success stories who have ascended to international icon status in their respective fields. These two were selected as brand ambassadors because they reflect our vision for Scent of Africa not just because of their achievements but also because of their commitment to give back to their homeland as philanthropists and entrepreneurs.”
