As one half of Akil Productions, Salim Akil started off as a staff writer for Showtime's Soulfood and quickly graduated to executive producer. It wasn't long before he was onboard directing UPN's hit series Girlfriends and serving as lead director and executive producer to its spinoff, BET's The Game. The seasoned exec made his way to feature films, directing 2011's Jumping the Broom followed by 2012's Sparkle. He is married to famed producer Mara Brock Akil, with whom he's paired on numerous projects. Together they are among Hollywood's most successful Black artists, with their latest creation being BET series Being Mary Jane.
