Lane Bryant's Response to Victoria's Secret's Super Skinny Runway
The annual Victoria's Secret fashion show is a male fantasy come to life, but it's also a source of major body consciousness and shaming for women who don't have two percent body fat. Lane Bryant prepared a response to the unavoidable images of scantily-clad Angels this year with their #ImNoAngel" campaign, complete with their own fashion show on social media.
Through the campaign, the plus size fashion brand wants women to know that every body is beautiful and that there's not just one type of sexy. Lane Bryant says that while size zero women are incredibly sexy, so are size 10s, 20s and beyond. The brand has a problem with Victoria's Secret excluding women of different sizes in their annual event and only showcasing one body type in a country where the average women wears a size 12-14. Deemed the "sexiest night on TV," where are the sexy ladies of different sizes and shapes?
This is where Lane Bryant's social media campaign came in, and believe it or not, there's already backlash against it with some calling it "skinny shaming." Can't win for losing.
