Black Ivy League Alumni to Convene to Look at African-American Issues

The Black Ivy Alumni League announced it will hold its first conference to bring together some of the nation’s most successful African-American professionals.

A group of African-American alumni of the nation’s Ivy League universities announced that it will host a national conference aimed at determining how Black professionals can enhance opportunities in scholarship, business development and politics.

The organizers of the conference, which will be held in Miami in September and will be the first of its kind, said the gathering will be notable largely because it will bring together some of the most successful Black professionals to look at issues of concern to the African-American community.
The conference will be hosted by the Black Ivy Alumni League, a 12-year-old organization that hosts programs, develops scholarship funds and promotes Black business development.
“Now is the time to bring everyone together to view our opportunities through a productive new lens,” said Maisha Walker, the group’s president. She added that this is also the time “to understand the Black American past and present in business, politics, education and leadership in order to shape the future now and for subsequent generations of Americans.”
She said that the speakers at the conference will include world leaders, senior executives and “some of the country's best and brightest academic innovators.”
Included in the ranks of Black alumni of Ivy League schools are President Obama, who graduated from Columbia University and Harvard Law School, and his wife, Michelle Obama, who graduated from Princeton University and Harvard Law School.
