This 6th Grader Was Suspended for Shaving Two Lines in His Hair Because of a Ridiculous School Policy

Xaiver Davis was forced to fill the lines with a Sharpie.

A sixth grader at a school in Baytown, Texas, was recently given an in-school suspension because of his haircut. When Xavier Davis walked into his classroom last week at Cedar Bayou Junior High School, a teacher noticed the two lines he had shaved in his hair and immediately sent him to the principal.

"I was walking into class, and she saw my hair and said, 'You can't have two lines in your hair. Go to the office,'" Xavier told Click2Houston.

Davis was told to fix the haircut or he’d receive an in-school suspension.

  • "He's had his hair cut like this for six months and now all of a sudden it's a problem?" said his father, Matt Davis.

After Davis was given one day of in-school suspension, his parents took matters into their own hands. Davis’s mother used a marker to create a school approved single line in her son’s hair.

"He had a space here and a space there," Matt Davis said regarding his son’s haircut. "She took a Sharpie permanent marker and colored the bottom of his hair in, so in order for him to get an education, we have to treat his hair like a coloring book, I guess."

Davis’s two-shaved-line haircut has been widely popular, particular among soccer stars such as Cristiano Ronaldo.

The school district's dress code policy says the following pertaining to hairstyles:

"Letters, symbols, and designs beyond a single straight line which draw attention to an individual shall not be permitted. The administrator/supervisor reserves the right to determine if a hairstyle is disruptive to the educational process."

Davis’s parents are unsure of how two lines could have contributed to a distracting learning environment.

"I don't know if having one line or two is a distraction to learning, it's not a distraction to me," Matt Davis said. "It's nonsense. We send him here to get an education. We send him here to learn. It's not about his haircut."
