Watch a Former Gang Member Make His Acting Debut in Five Star

James "Primo" Grant brings his life to the big screen.

Authenticity is one of the few things money can't buy, which works out well for the independent drama Five Star. The film, which was made on a shoestring budget yet went on to win awards at last year's Tribeca Film Festival, may lack big stars and explosions, but oozes realness.
Much of that can be attributed to James "Primo" Grant, who stars as a reformed gang member who becomes a father figure to the son (John Diaz) of his murdered mentor, "versing him in the code of the streets," according to the film's synopsis. Primo himself was a member of the Bloods since he was 12 years old.
The resulting film feels almost documentary-like in it's approach, and offers a view of New York seldom seen on screen. Check out a sneak peek of Five Star below, and see the film in select theaters starting July 24 and on VOD August 4.
