Jada Pinkett Smith on Family, Food and Fitness

The "Gotham" star sounds off on her health mantra.

Actress Jada Pinkett Smith is one tough cookie! The 43-year-old mother of two and wife to mega superstar Will Smith made a name for herself in the early 1990s on TV shows like A Different World and movies like Jason’s Lyric. Since then, the actress has been in award-winning movies and her own television show but has her share of tabloid press as well. But one thing is for certain, she looks great and sets the record straight about how she holds it all together.

On Her Marriage

“Will and I are yin and yang,” she says. “He’s all sky, vast and bright and soaring, and I’m all earth. I’m here to ground him, and he’s here to help me fly.” Jada makes sure she and Will’s love life keeps a spark, even during the trying time. Besides doing her daily Kegels –“It keeps the sex hot,” says Jada–she takes time to nourish their relationship by creating outings for her and will when life gets stressful.

On Food

Jada sticks to a high protein diet, incorporating a lot of vegetables and chicken into her diet.  Her favorite breakfast is steel-cut oatmeal with sauteed kale, grilled chicken and sesame seeds.

For lunch, she usually opts for fish paired with a green salad, while her family’s favorite snack is apples and peanut butter. Although Jada does maintain a healthy diet, her guilty pleasure foods are pizza and french fries.  Her favorite pizza toppings are veggies and chicken.

On Fitness

She said a young woman approached her about a picture of her running on the beach and inquired how she could get toned arms.

“PUSH-UPs are my favorite exercise for my arms,” writes Pinkett Smith. “You may need to start on your knees in three sets of 10. Try to work to getting off your knees and doing as many push-ups as possible a day until your arms look the way YOU want.”
