The two judges are reportedly sparring during auditions.
From the time Nicki Minaj was rumored to be an American Idol judge, there's been speculation that Mariah Carey was not thrilled about FOX's choice. At the first taping for Idol on Sunday, the two pop queens reportedly went at it, as the older diva, Mariah, kept talking over the Young Money star. When Nicki would give feedback to a contestant, Mariah kept interrupting. However, Nicki would fight back by talking loudly over the Butterfly singer, refusing to be silenced.
The two were attempting to cover their disdain for each other, but according to a source, "These girls just don't like each other." At best, the controversy between the two will make great TV and potentially spike Idol's ratings. Both successful in their own right and with dedicated fan bases, Mariah's lambs and Nicki's barbs will support each star in their position on the show.
When a fan asked Nicki how her first day of judging went, she tweeted, "It was...interesting..." It's not clear if she was referencing her interaction with the contestants or Mariah, but only time will tell. American Idol Season 12 premieres in January 2013.
