Chris Brown Fighting to Stay Out of US Marshals' Custody

Breezy's lawyer files motion to have singer released early in time to prepare for D.C. trial.

There's a battle brewing over how Chris Brown will get to D.C. for the start of his misdemeanor assault trial April 17, reports TMZ

Brown's attorney, Mark Geragos, filed a motion in court today to block prosecutors' request that the 25-year-old be taken to D.C. under the custody of the U.S. Marshal. A judge signed the document last week, stating that Brown must arrive in D.C. two days before his court date. Taxpayers will foot the bill for the cross-country court trip.

Geragos argues that the Grammy winner needs be released into his custody to allow him an opportunity to prepare for the trial. A hearing in the motion has been set for Thursday (April 3).

The assault charge stems from an incident in D.C. last October, when Brown allegedly attacked a man, who is now suing him for $3 million.

As he awaits the start of one trial, Brown continues to be held at the Los Angeles County Jail. The "Fine China" singer has been in custody since he was kicked out of court-ordered rehab last month.

On Monday (March 31) ex-girlfriend Karrueche Tran instagrammed a video message from Breezy thanking fans for their "love" and "support."
