Jamie Foxx Defends Mayweather-Pacquiao Fight National Anthem

Grammy Award winner blames technical difficulties for off-key rendition.

So, Jamie Foxx's rendition of the national anthem before the Floyd Mayweather Jr.-Manny Pacquiao fight wasn't that good.

But the Grammy Award winner isn't tripping about it. Instead, he's simply chalking up being off-key to technical difficulties.

"First of all, everybody calm down," Foxx told Access Hollywood, as reported by Billboard, about his national anthem at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas this past Saturday night. "We had a little bit of a situation with our ear pieces. The [ear] pack actually dropped off, so I couldn't, you know…I can't hear what's playing, so I just had to go on my own. Hopefully they understand. It's just the national anthem."

"I think a little bit was just people wanted to have something to talk about," he added. "But everything's cool and the national anthem will be on my album and I'm gonna do whatever the hell I want to."

Foxx also spoke about the off-key national anthem on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Tuesday.

"I can’t hear what the organ is doing with the big crowd," Foxx said. "So some of it was a little off, but in the arena it killed. The telecast was a little off. We still love America!"

Foxx is currently promoting his new album, Hollywood: A Story of a Dozen Roses, which is scheduled for a May 18 release.
