New York Giants to Start Jaxson Dart Over Russell Wilson
Following a 0-3 start to the season, the New York Giants have pulled the plug on Russell Wilson.
According to CBS Sports, rookie Jaxson Dart is the Giants’ new starting QB.
Against the Kansas City Chiefs, Wilson did not put on a good performance. He threw for 160 yards and two interceptions. During red zone possession late in the game, Wilson threw the ball out of bounds on fourth down.
This offseason, Wilson inked a one-year, $10.5 million deal and was named the starter until Dart, the 25th pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, was ready to take the reins. Although Dart had an impressive preseason, Daboll stuck with Wilson as the team's starter. But the experiment is all but over.
The writing was on the wall when head coach Brian Daboll alluded to a change at quarterback being possible, saying at the Monday afternoon press conference that the team was "evaluating everything." He also refused to declare Wilson the starter against the Los Angeles Chargers this upcoming Sunday.
"We're working through all the personnel decisions," Daboll said at the time. "I'm not saying who's starting or who's not starting. I'm just saying we're evaluating everything right now."
Since leaving the Seahawks in 2022, Wilson has played for the Denver Broncos (2022-2023), Pittsburgh Steelers (2024), and now the New York Giants. Each stop has resulted in Wilson losing his starting spot and/or not performing to expectations.
At 36 years old and on the decline of his remarkable career, it remains to be seen what’s next for Russell Wilson.
