Hip Hop Awards 2022: See Which Tracks Made Drake One of The Top Contenders for ‘Best Collaboration’

The legendary rapper leads this year's race with 14 nominations

It has been an epic last few years for rap legend Drake. The Canadian emcee was met with critical acclaim following the release of his sixth studio album, Certified Lover Boy, earning the “Knife Talk” rapper nine top 10 hits on the Hot 100, setting the record for most U.S. top-ten hits from one album, with its lead single "Way 2 Sexy" reaching number one.

The following year, the rapper released his seventh studio album, a house-inspired album titled, Honestly, Nevermind, which features several standout singles, including "Sticky,” "Massive,” and “Jimmy Cooks,” which features fellow rapper 21 Savage, the latter of which earned Drake one of three nominations for “Best Collaboration” and 14 total at the 2022 BET Hip Hop Awards. Ahead of this year’s event, hosted by legendary rapper Fat Joe, see which tracks made the OVO boss one of the top contenders for best collaboration.

  • “Way 2 Sexy”

“Way 2 Sexy” served as the lead single from Drake’s sixth studio album,  Certified Lover Boy, which features a sample of Right Said Fred's 1991 single "I'm Too Sexy.” The song finds the emcee delivering chilled lyrics about a potential romantic interest. Iconic filmmaker Dave Meyers directed the pop culture-inspired music video. The record is up for “Best Collaboration” and “Song of the Year” as well.

  • “Jimmy Cooks” feat. 21 Savage

“Jimmy Cooks” is the latest collaboration between Drake and 21 Savage, the former’s latest album Honest, Nevermind. The Memphis-inspired track debuted at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100, becoming Drake's eleventh and the Atlanta native’s second number-one song on the chart. Much like “Way 2 Sexy,” the song makes several cultural references, including the Oscar slap heard around the world.

  • Future — “Wait For U” feat. Drake & Tems

Future’s “Wait For U” is one of the latest examples of how hip hop and r&b have always meshed so well. The Atlanta native delivered the second single from his ninth studio album, I Never Liked You, last May.  The song features vocals from Drake and breakout star Tems. “Video Director of the Year” nominee Director X directed the visual.
