Soul Train Awards 2022: A Look Back at Mary J. Blige’s Most Memorable 'Soul Train Awards' Moments

The Queen of Hip Hop and R&B took home the ‘Certified Soul Award’ at this year’s ceremony.

In November, Mary J. Blige took home the distinguished“Certified Soul Award” at this year's Soul Train Awards 2022. The musical icon beat out several outstanding artists, including Chaka Khan, Charlie Wilson, Diana Ross, Maxwell, PJ Morton, T-Pain, Ronald Isley & The Isley Brothers. As we look back at yet another illustrious celebration of soul and r&b music, we’re reflecting on some of Mary’s most memorable Soul Train Award moments.

  • Soul Train Awards 1994

    Mary took home the award for ‘R&B /Soul Album of the Year-Female’ at the 1994 ceremony hosted by Gladys Knight, Patti LaBelle, and Johnny Gill at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, California.

    The musical icon made her way to the stage before sharing a warm embrace with the late Heavy D. Left nearly speechless, Mary gave gratitude for the honor and thanked everyone from her mother to her fans and everyone who’s helped her along the way.

  • Soul Train Awards 2000

    In 2000, Mary accepted the ‘R&B/Soul Album Female Award’ presented by LL Cool J, Rachel, and Master P. The singer beat out several talented songbirds, including Macy Gray, Jennifer Lopez, and the late Whitney Houston.

  • Soul Train Awards 2000

    In 2000, the “No More Drama” singer accepted the prestigious Soul Train Music Sammy Davis Jr. Award for Entertainer of the Year. At the time, the award was given out twice a year, honoring male and female artists separately. The late DMX won the award for male artists that same year.
