Allyson Felix Talks Motherhood, Serena Williams’ Retirement, And Preparing Her Daughter For Pre-K!

The athlete, entrepreneur, and busy mom recently chatted with BET.com about her collaboration with Clorox.

Allyson Felix is “excited” about the upcoming school year!

The athlete and entrepreneur recently chatted with BET Lifestyle about how she’s preparing her daughter Camryn Grace for her first back-to-school season. The busy mom also discussed her decision to collaborate with Clorox to inform parents about how to keep their families safe during these times. Keep scrolling to get all the details!

“She's really excited,” Felix exclaims, referring to her daughter's enthusiasm for Pre-K. “She's super curious and excited!”

Along with buying school supplies and answering all of her baby girl's questions about school, Felix says she's made it a priority to teach her daughter the value of cleanliness, especially during these times.

“We talk a lot about germs and how they're spread,” she explains, noting that the school year puts families at a higher risk of common colds and flu. “I taught her about the importance of washing her hands. I think going back to school is the perfect time for her to put those kinds of new skills into practice.”

The proud mom continued, “I'm looking forward to her having a good year.”

In hopes of helping other families have an “unstoppable” school year, Felix recently partnered with Clorox to help parents combat germs as kids return to school. “The back-to-school season is a busy time, but it's also a time where germs are prevalent,” she cautions fellow parents.

A recent Clorox study confirmed that the back-to-school season introduces a slew of new germs into the home. According to the findings, children's school clothes are 28 times germier than a toilet seat, and backpacks are 31 times germier than the average cell phone. Shocking, right???

To help combat sickness, Felix says she personally loves the Clorox brand. She tells us, “The Disinfecting Wipes are really my go-to to wipe down hard surfaces. I also love the Disinfecting Spray because it works on soft surfaces like my daughter’s backpack. It ensures everything that she comes into contact with is disinfected and ready to go."

While chatting with us, we also asked the 11-time Olympic medalist about Serena Williams’ recent Vogue interview where she announced her plans to retire from tennis.

Felix, who announced her retirement from track and field in April 2022, explained, "Everything that Serena said in that article resonated with me. I loved how she talked about evolving away from tennis. As an athlete, that is what happens.”

The decorated athlete adds, “As much as I have really tried to be able to do both with motherhood and having an intense athletic career, it is really hard. The older you get and wanting to expand a family, it becomes more difficult. For sure, those thoughts were in my head as well. And it does play into the decision that you make as a family to step away.”

She concludes, “Motherhood has changed me. I think it's given me a lot more courage. It's helped me to find my voice. I think about the world that my daughter will grow up in and the platform that I'm blessed to have. I really just want to use it responsibly.”

FYI: Felix is the President and co-founder of Saysh, a brand that specially designs sneakers to fit the form of the female foot.
