Premiere: Joe Budden Borrows A Classic Formula On ‘I Gotta Ask’

He gives a nod to Jay Z.

Joe Budden and araabMUZIK’s joint project Rage & The Machine is set to drop on Oct. 21, and the rapper-producer duo have another offering to whet your hip-hop appetite. Over an expertly crafted sample of Into The Woods, Budden gives a nod to another rapper who famously flowed over a Broadway musical: Jay Z. Flipping lines from “Hard Knock Life” into his own, the Jersey spitter adds his own flair to a classic formula.

"The beat immediately brought me to a very nostalgic place, it just felt good" Budden says. "Hopefully, it'll have that same effect when others hear it; I'd like for that to resonate."
Rage & The Machine is Budden’s first independent album release, and will solely feature the beatsmith stylings of araabMUZIK. The project includes features from Fabolous, Joell Ortiz, Tory Lanez, Stacy Barthe and more. In a recent interview, the rapper described his moda operandi this time around as simply “barring ni**as to death.”
Looks like he’s sticking to the script. Spin Joe Budden’s “I Gotta Ask” below:
