Kevin Gates's Wife: 'Thanks for Taking My Husband Away From My Kids'

She goes off in a new Instagram post.

Kevin Gates caught a case in August 2015, and yesterday (October 26) received his sentence.

The New Orleans rapper was found guiilty and will spend up to 180 days in prison after he was filmed kicking a woman in the chest during his concert in Lakeland, Florida. Gates claimed he was defending himself and entered a “Stand Your Ground” defense, but the judge wasn’t buying it.

Now, Gates’s wife, Dreka Gates, is responding to the verdict and sentencing. She is denying the severity of the incident and backs up Gates’s self defense argument.

“You mean to tell me that@iamkevingates kicked the girl in the red jumpsuit and knocked the breathe out her? Because that's what she's been claiming and testified today in court,” she captioned on Instagram next to video she posted of the assault. “If anything her friend choked the f**k out of her. She claims she fainted, but yet she and her friend stayed at the club at the front of the stage even after this incident. She also acquired a civil attorney early on... what does that tell you? She also touched him FIRST (more than once) without his consent but yet he was the one sentenced to jail today for the same crime. She and her friend also had very conflicting stories and were tripped up in many lies today in the courtroom.”

She continued by then pivoting to what this all meant for her community and her own children. Let’s just say this made her even more angry.

“It was comical and sad at the same time to see how desperate people are for fame and money,” she wrote. “Not to mention the prosecutors wanted to give him 60 days with anger management and community service but yet the judge decided to give him 180 days?!? Are you f***ing kidding me. Inshallah justice will be served. #unjust#f***ery #polkcounty #smfh by the way, thanks for taking my husband away from our kids (sarcasm) #itsnotoverjustyet.”

Kevin Gates’s attorney, Jose Baez, tried to make the argument his client’s foot never even grazed the victim, Miranda Dixon. He also echoed Dreka’s sentiments about Dixon’s so-called attempts at gaining damages for an upcoming civil trial, however the judge had none of that argument either.
