Rocsi Responds to Internet Hoax

106 & Park host explains why she stopped laughing about fabricated story

What was intended to be a joke about 106 & Park host Rocsi Diaz has turned into a brouhaha that spawned both an apology and subsequent rant on the need for an end to negativity. Earlier in the week, a fake story about Rocsi being arrested for stealing from a Wet Seal Store in Florida spread over the Web. Similar stories about Keri Hilson and Ciara were also spread on various social media Web sites and blogs.
Though it was intended to be a joke, Rocsi is not laughing—at least not anymore. She told BET.com, “I found out about the story late last night. At first I thought it was funny because it was just Twitter, and it was just joking. Like I was even joking about it.” But then she realized that, “A real respectful search engine actually picked up the story. And people aren’t reading the story was a fake phony story. They’re reading 'Rocsi Got Arrested.’”
She noted further, “And for me being somebody that tries to be an example and role model to these young people that watch our show each and every day—that hurts my career.” As for what she might do next, “[Taking legal action] is in discussion only because it has hurt my image. It costs a lot of money to clean up your name, and who’s going to pay for that?”
