After several years of playing the role of stay at home mom, Nicole Richie is making a comeback to the small screen in the upcoming NBC reality competition show Fashion Star.

The self-taught designer will serve as a mentor to fourteen contestants competing for a multi-million fashion contract with three major American retailers. Richie, who was once the subject of tabloid headlines for substance abuse and legal drama, has since cleaned up her act and launched two successful brands: House of Harlow and Winter Kate, named after her two kids with rock star Joel Madden.

Last time Nicole was on television, she played quite a different character: the spoiled city girl stuck in the country with her then-BFF Paris Hilton in The Simple Life.
