Dave Chappelle Apologizes For Bizarre Comedy Routine

Comedian expresses regret over failed performance.

Dave Chappelle is apologizing for a peculiar 53-minute comedy set on Saturday where he didn’t tell jokes and constantly checked his text messages while on stage, according to Radar Online.

Audience member Andrew Barnett told the Miami Herald that Chappelle lost focus after hecklers started jeering. According to Barnett, Chappelle allowed the audience to dictate the routine in which he lost focus and started responding to people.

“I’ve been on stage more than 40 minutes. I’ve only told one joke," a frustrated Chappelle told the audience during Friday's set. "The audience has told 38 jokes. F-cking fantastic,” he said from on stage.

CNN anchor Roland Martin was in the audience at the time and he tweeted a play by play, which confirmed what Barnett described. The following day Chappelle apologized for his “bad attitude.”
