The sexy and glamourous worlds of hip hop and showbiz hustle featured in the Web series 8 Days a Week is ready for its primetime TV closeup. The dramedy is now a primetime special on BET.
The scripted series that stars internet sensation Skye Townsend (daughter of film director Robert Townsend) and actor/rapper Justin IROC Williams (the nephew to gospel duo Mary Mary) is based on the critically acclaimed teen book series The Come Up, by New York Times bestselling author Lyah Beth LeFlore. Eight Days A Week will delve into the sexy and exciting lives of six diverse 20-something hopefuls navigating the perks and pitfalls of life in the fast lane.
The drama got the jump to network special after completing a successful 10-week run on BET.com, where it became the most viewed Web series in the site's history.
Here’s a breakdown of the 8 Days A Week's characters and cast members:
Blue Reynolds (portrayed by Williams) is a mogul on the come up, determined to make it on his own terms, despite his parent’s wishes. Blue is also crushing very hard on Jade Taylor.
Jade Taylor (played by Townsend) is a struggling college student studying to be a doctor. And like her real-life father, be on the look out for Townsend’s hilarious personality to shine through Jade. Audiences might even get a glimpse of one of Townsend’s popular impressions as well. Jade is BFF with Mamie Lopez.
Mamie “DJ Ill MaMa” Lopez (portrayed by Alex Lynn Ward) is an ambitious DJ hoping to get her moment in the turntable spotlight. Mamie regularly plays the hottest tracks on her wheels of steel, but she could also one day be spinning the records of blues recording artist J-Shine.
Jayson “J-Shine” Martin (played by Nicholas Green) is new to the Los Angeles scene and a musical prodigy and rapper hoping to be the next biggest and hottest thing in hip hop. J-Shine and Blue are best friends to Tommy “Whiteboy” James.
Tommy “Whiteboy” James (portrayed by Justin Jacoby) is an L.A. native and aspiring artist who shows his BFFs the ropes to the city of dreams. Tommy is also trying to fight the pull and lure of his hustling past life.
Zoe Olivia Daniels (played Skye P. Marshall) works in alocal coffee shop where all five of the hopefuls hang out, but Zoe has big dreams of being a fashion designer for the runways of Paris.
