Diann Valentine Hearts to Give Brides a Second Chance

Diann Valentine Hearts to Give Brides a Second Chance. The "I Do Over" star reboots wedding horrors into fantasy dreams come true.

So much of what fuels hot and buzzworthy reality TV is centered around drama, chaos and mayhem, but celebrity wedding and event planner Diann Valentine, who created magical big days for stars like Toni Braxton, Usher and Martin Lawrence, is aiming to fix that — at least in the on-air nuptials department.

Valentine is the star of WeTV reality show I Do Over, where she acts as a wedding fairy godmother. She told BET.com, “My show is for couples that literally had a disaster ruin their wedding day. And I find them, knock on their door and five days later give them a brand new wedding, except it’s ten times bigger and ten times more fabulous.”

In a TV landscape where wedding shows like Bridezillas rule, the Oakland, C.A.-born former Warner Home Video executive admitted to having some reservations about bringing her positive and uplifting brand to the combative reality airwaves.

“I definitely had my concerns and I think it took me a while to land my show because reality shows are looking for the controversy — that’s what sells,” says Valentine. “Ratings for shows like Real Housewives of Atlanta and Basketball Wives are through the roof. That’s what people watch on television. So it’s much harder, unfortunately, to get viewers to tune into something on that’s just good old-fashioned TV.”

But the author of Weddings, Valentine Style is banking on the idea that America still has room in its heart for a “feel-good” reality show, much like the very successful Extreme Makeover: Home Edition series, that’s in the business of changing lives for the better. “I believe I Do Over is going to encourage women and really give them hope again,” says Valentine. “It’s important for me to be a positive and encouraging force for all women across the country and use my creative gifts to make people happy.”

I Do Over airs Sunday at 10pm/9c on WE TV.
