The R&B star, who's treating a broken neck, finally confirms he's in a relationship with the American Idol alum.
Jason Derulo is no longer ridin' solo. The R&B prodigy and American Idol standout Jordin Sparks are officially a couple, he confirms. Derulo, who broke his neck three weeks ago during a rehearsal for his tour, credits his new love for helping him heal.
"I'm taking it one day at a time," Derulo tells People in his first interview since the accident, which happened in Miami early January. "It's been really eye-opening. It's given me a chance to look at everything and realize how blessed I truly am."
Seems his brush with mortality — while Derulo is expected to make a full recovery, a snapped vertebrae often results in paralysis or even death — has made the singer/producer eager to come clean about his relationship with the American Idol alum.
"We are together," says Derulo, confirming the news for the first time since the couple were spotted together in September 2011. "She lives in Phoenix and she comes [to Miami] and takes care of me, brings me breakfast in bed and she'll go on walks with me. We've gotten closer because of my accident. It's awesome to have someone you can talk to and she's a wonderful person."
At least his long recovery — expected to take six or seven months — won't be lonely!
