Aretha Franklin, In Living Color Honored at TV Land Awards

Kelly Ripa hosted the 10th Anniversary show.

Television went into the time machine on Saturday night with the 10th Annual TV Land Awards. Kelly Ripa hosted the show, which honored soul legend Aretha Franklin with the Music Icon award and reunited the cast of In Living Color for the Groundbreaking Award. Laverne & Shirley, Murphy Brown and Pee-wee's Playhouse were also recognized for their contributions to television and pop culture.
The highlight of the show was a roof-raising performance by Franklin, who performed four of her biggest hits (“Respect,” “Chain of Fools,” “I Came to Lift Him Up” and “Ombra Mai Fu”) before being serenaded by John Legend, who presented her with the Music Icon award.
Jim Carrey also gave a touching speech along with his former In Living Color castmates Keenen Ivory Wayans, Kim Wayans, Shawn Wayans and Marlon Wayans. Though In Living Color will be revived by Fox for two half-hour specials this year, Keenan tells E! News that a full cast reunion isn't in the cards, saying, "Everybody's off doing other things now."
Ripa closed the show with a performance alongside In Living Color's legendary Fly Girls.
The TV Land Awards will air on Sunday, April 29 at 9pm ET/PT. Check back next week for BET.com's exclusive video of Aretha Franklin at the show!
