The cast of the indie drama Fruitvale firms up as Tristan Wilds and Melonie Diaz join the ensemble.
Fruitvale, produced by Forest Whitaker and Nina Yang, centers on the real-life story of Oscar Grant, a young Black man shot and killed by a Bay Area Transit police officer on New Year’s Eve 2009. Like the Rodney King beating in 1991, the Grant shooting was captured on video and the ensuing trial sparked protest and riots.
Oscar winner Octavia Spencer and actor Michael B. Jordan are already set to star. Wilds will play Grant’s best friend while Diaz will portray the mother of his young child.
No word yet on what part Spencer will play.
Wilds recently starred in the George Lucas-produced World War II action film Red Tails. Diaz has appeared on such TV shows as Person of Interest and CSI: Miami.
